Twenty deals completed
A Sheffield firm’s success has thrust it into the top bracket of the region’s dealmakers and boosted South Yorkshire’s economy into the bargain.
Leading South Yorkshire dealmakers Strategic Corporate Finance have completed 19 company acquisitions and disposals since January 1, 2005.
Specialists at the company, the largest team of dedicated dealmakers in South Yorkshire and one of the largest corporate finance enterprises in the North of England, have been responsible for 13 management buy-outs/buy-ins since the start of last year along with two corporate acquisitions and four company disposals.
The firm is currently engaged by clients on another 20 or so deals including seven company disposals.
Although Strategic works on deals throughout the UK, its policy is to try wherever possible to place the banking and legal advisory work with banks and lawyers within the Sheffield and South Yorkshire region.
As a result, the 19 deals, along with two development capital raising projects, have created 63 assignments for lawyers, 20 new banking relationships with facilities exceeding £50m, 18 due diligence undertakings for accountants and seven venture capital investments.
Of the 19 acquisitions and disposals, seven were in South Yorkshire, three in West Yorkshire, one in North Yorkshire, two in the North East, three in the South East, two in Manchester and one in the East Midlands.
Andrew Coates, a director of the company, says:” Our success is down to a strong and experienced team and our pro-active approach to dealmaking. We work hard to create deals rather than sitting back and waiting for business to come to us.”
Kevan Shaw, also a director of Strategic, added: “Many deals are not happening because of a lack of specialist corporate advice. The future survival of such businesses is jeopardised where a deal fails to happen when a change of ownership is clearly required.”
John Longstaff, another director, commented: “The amount of wealth for the region created from these 19 deals cannot be underestimated as the new owners take advantage of growth opportunities, confident that they have the funding in place to do so.”
Strategic Corporate Finance, of Omega Court, Cemetery Road, Sheffield, have built a reputation for being able to create deals and project manage complex transactions through to successful completions.
Their services include finding buyers for clients wanting to sell a business as well as identifying suitable target acquisitions for acquisitive clients and advising on the feasibility of funding proposed transactions which have already been agreed in principle.
